Azores Travel – Nine islands, endless experiences
In the heart of the Atlantic, halfway between Europe and America, rises an archipelago seemingly sculpted by nature to amaze at every horizon. The Azores are nine islands, each with a distinct personality, yet united by breathtaking landscapes, genuine hospitality, and a rich cultural heritage.
São Miguel, the largest island, blends green fields, volcanic lakes, and a tranquil pace of life. The Sete Cidades Lagoonenchants with its rare contrast of colours — one side blue, the other green — while Furnas offers a unique natural spectacle, where the traditional cozido is slowly cooked by the earth’s geothermal heat.
On Terceira, the spirit is all about celebration. Angra do Heroísmo, a UNESCO World Heritage city, sets the stage for a vibrant festival calendar — from traditional “Carnival Dances” to the Sanjoaninas festivities, passing through touradas à corda and deeply rooted religious pilgrimages.
The Central Group
The Central Group reveals the maritime soul of the Azores. In Faial, the Horta Marina welcomes sailors from all over the world, with the iconic Peter’s Café Sport as a must-stop. Across the channel, Pico rises majestically, crowned by Portugal’s highest mountain. Here, centuries-old vineyards grow on black basalt, producing a wine once served in European royal courts.
Further west, Flores amazes with waterfalls and lush valleys, while Corvo, the smallest island, charms with its tranquillity and authenticity. São Jorge is famed for its dramatic fajãs and distinctive cheese; Graciosa, with its windmills and peaceful Vila da Praia, exudes timeless charm; and Santa Maria, with golden sand beaches, invites relaxation under the Atlantic sun.
Exploring the Azores means discovering a place where time slows, nature sets the pace, and each island holds the promise of unforgettable memories — whether on a hike along volcanic craters, toasting the sunset with Pico wine, or spotting whales in their natural habitat.
At Be In Travel Portugal, we design exclusive itineraries so you can experience each island authentically and comfortably — from private guided tours to themed programs or unique combinations with mainland Portugal and Madeira. Everything to make your Azores journey truly unforgettable.
